Solafa Ahmed
(She/Her/Hers)
Solafa works with adult individuals and couples.
Salam and hello. A client once shared a quote by Ram Dass that resonated with me: “We’re all just walking each other home.” Every time I “walk a client home,” I feel honoured. I believe that everyone is born with an immense amount of strength, but it can be hard to see your strength when you are going through a hard time. My work as a psychologist is built on the foundation of a trusting relationship, non-judgmental space, and the positive regard I offer to my clients. I work collaboratively with my clients, supporting them in acknowledging and embracing their strengths and moving gently towards change.
My passion for helping others has made my counselling journey an exciting one. For me, helping is about meeting my clients where they are and creating a safe space that allows for vulnerability. My work provides opportunities for people to express their feelings, thoughts, and worries, and in return I offer kindness and expertise. Together with my clients, I assess readiness for change and provide the help necessary to make decisions and take action.
My therapeutic lens is strengths-based and compassionate; I appreciate and attune to individuals’ diversity, culture, and experiences. My experience across various countries and cultures affords me a unique understanding of intersectionality and minority identities and my focus on client strengths creates positive change for those who are struggling. I am able to offer counselling services in both English and Arabic.
In the counselling room, I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I work with my clients to find the general approach and specific interventions that make the most sense for them and their situation. My clinical areas of interest are anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, relationships, and religion and spirituality. I enjoy working with adults and couples.
I look forward to meeting you, hearing your story, and building a genuine relationship wherein you can trust me to walk you home!

I recognize that starting counselling can be difficult and I am here to compassionately guide you through the process. I work collaboratively with my clients to help them live healthy and fulfilling lives according to their personal values and strengths. I take the role of a supportive, encouraging guide and invite my clients into a space of authenticity and vulnerability. I offer my knowledge and training, but you are the expert of your own experience. Together we find opportunities to move toward change and growth in the areas that are important to you.
Currently, I work primarily with adults and couples. My focus includes anxiety, depression, anger, self-esteem, stress and burnout, emotional regulation, life transitions and relationship difficulties. My sessions with couples focus on communication, emotion regulation and conflict management.
Through a person-centered approach, I work together with my clients to ensure they are progressing towards their chosen goals. I incorporate cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), elements of attachment theory, emotion-focused therapy (EFT), and mindfulness-based techniques into my therapeutic work with clients. In couples therapy, I utilize the Gottman method and support couples with communication and intimacy-enhancing tools.
I view the therapeutic relationship as an essential part of the healing journey and so, I work hard to create a safe and accepting environment for my clients to explore their concerns and experiences. Thoughts and beliefs play a powerful role in the way we feel. Within the safety of our therapeutic relationship, I help you to find the vocabulary and space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour without judgment. My hope is that through our work you gain greater insight into yourself and others. I look forward to meeting you and learning about your unique story and perspective!

I respect that everyone experiences life differently and comes to therapy with their own story. At times, the voice that tells the story is self-criticizing and judgmental, making us feel powerless. My hope for of our work together is that you come back to yourself and recognize your inherent strength and capacity for growth. I will meet you in a space of authenticity and vulnerability as we explore your inner world and help you feel more connected to your mind and body.
I currently work with adolescents (16 years and older), adults, and couples. My passions include anxiety, people-pleasing, boundary setting, self-esteem/confidence, shame and guilt, stress and burnout, emotional regulation, school and work related challenges, post-secondary student life, life transitions, and relationship difficulties.
Working from an integrative and person-centered approach, I draw on Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Existentialism, and Gottman’s Couples Therapy. I integrate mindfulness in my approach to bring awareness to your body, listen to what your emotions may be trying to tell you, and help you connect to all parts of yourself.
My practice is focused on helping you develop a stronger connection to self, others, and the world around you. I believe in your capacity for growth and trust that you know what is best for you. Together, we will determine goals that are important and realistic as I support you to live in alignment with your values. I will ask curious questions to help you develop new insights, offer hope, and listen between your words to find strength and resilience in your story. Utilizing an integrative approach to therapy, I draw heavily on Person Centred Therapy (PCT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-based approaches, attachment theory, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). In my couple’s work, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Gottman Couples Counselling, and communication-enhancing tools.
